The Green Bay Packers closing out their first regular season with a new hopeful franchise quarterback after having the position for more than four decades with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers.
Any longtime Pack fan understands the greatness that those two signal callers brought to the team.
After getting traded from the Falcons and taking over as the starter in 1992, Favre led the Packers to 11 playoff appearances in his 16 seasons with the team,, seven division titles, four NFC Championship Games, two consecutive Super Bowlappearances, and one championship title in Super Bowl XXXI, the team’s first in nearly three decades.
From 1995 to 1997, he was named the NFL MVP three times, the most the award was consecutively received. Favre also added 11 Pro Bowl selections and three first-team All-Pro selections to his resume.
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2016.
And then came Aaron Rodgers.
It’s almost unfathomable the Green Bay Packers would find a seamless replacement for Favre, but they struck gold.
After backing up Brett Favre for the first three years of his NFL career, Rodgers became the Packers’ starting quarterback in 2008. In the 2010 season, he led them to a victory in Super Bowl XLV, earning the Super Bowl MVP. He was named Associated Press Athlete of the Year in 2011 and was voted league MVP by the Associated Press for the 2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021 NFL seasons. Rodgers is the fifth player to win NFL MVP in consecutive seasons, joining Peyton Manning, Favre, Joe Montana and Jim Brown.
In his 16 seasons as the Green Bay franchise QB, Rodgers — like Favre — won a Super Bowl and was also named MVP for that game. He earned NFL MVP honors four times, one more than his predecessor, four first-team All Pro selections and 10 Pro Bowl invites.
Rodgers owns three NFL records, including single season passer rating (122.5 in 2011), lowest interception percentage in a single season in 2018 and most consecutive passes without an interception.
He’s widely considered one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time and is a sure-fire Hall of Famer in the future.
Al Harris Compares Dak Prescott to Green Bay Packers Legendary QBs
Green Bay Packers legend Al Harris made a bold comparison between Dak Prescott when asked about Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers
Former Green Bay Packers defensive back Al Harris — who is now the defensive backs coach for the Dallas Cowboys — had the opportunity to play with both Favre and Rodgers during his incredible run with the team from 2003-2010.
On Wednesday morning, Harris joined Adam Schefter’s podcast and now that he regularly works around Cowboys’ QB Dak Prescott, ESPN NFL Insider posed an interesting question.
Cowboys’ defensive backs coach Al Harris said he’s sees elements of his two former Packers teammates, Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, in the way Dak Prescott is now playing.

“You played for the Packers from 2003 to 2010, you were with Brett Favre from 2005 to 2007, Aaron Rodgers from 2008 to 2010, is the level that Dak Prescott is playing right now reminiscent in any way of either Favre or Rodgers when you were in Green Bay?” Schefter asked.
The former Green Bay Packers star didn’t hesitate, giving a somewhat surprising response.
“Both, both, he’s doing a phenomenal job,” the former Packers star DB said without hesitation.
“So both of those guys, with Dak, you see a little bit of Favre as like the older brother out there with the guys. And then you see a little bit of A-Rod as far as like making the check, even some of like the mannerisms, but as far as making the check and going to it, Dak is off the charts right now.”
Schefter noted this is the best he’s ever seen Prescott play and Harris said it comes down to him simply being comfortable.
“Before he was playing quarterback, now he’s playing football all and all, he’s doing an excellent job just seeing it all. From the guys splits, I watch him make checks, just looking at the quarterback play, he’s doing everything he needs to do.”
Is It Fair To Compare Dak Prescott To Green Bay Packers Legends?
While some Packers’ fans may be shaking their heads, Harris answered the question appropriately based on the way Schefter presented it.
The conversation wasn’t about if Prescott will finish with the accolades —- that very few NFL quarterbacks do — at the end of his career.
Instead. Harris was simply asked if Prescott’s current play reminds him of Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers as he played with both and is coaching the unit responsible for facing the Cowboys’ QB every day in practice.
It’s hard to debate Prescott’s stellar season so far. He ranks first in the NFL in touchdown passes with 26, has thrown for 3,234 yards which is fifth best in the league right now, has thrown just six interceptions and after 12 games ranks second in QBR (75.4).
There’s a reason Dak Prescott is currently one of the favorites to win NFL offensive MVP, but let’s not forget, Rodgers and Favre have won that award seven times combined.
Rodgers himself admitted Prescott has been one of his favorite quarterbacks to watch during the 2023 season as he rehabs from the Achilles injury. He then went into a detailed explanation of the subtle nuances the average fan may not notice that is making the Cowboys’ QB take his game to a whole new level.
One of the biggest knocks on Prescott has been his inability to thrive in big games, especially when the playoffs come around. If he wants to finish his career and be mentioned in the same sentence with two of the best quarterbacks of all time who played for the Green Bay Packers, he will have to remain consistent and win when it matters the most.
Only time will tell.
