The divorce between Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers was a long drawn-out affair that resulted in some pretty hard feelings, at least on one side of it. Of course, the decline in their relationship began when the Packers traded up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select Jordan Love as Rodgers’ successor.
And while the future Hall of Famer was never unkind to Love, he made it crystal clear that he was not happy with general manager Brian Gutekunst for drafting him. Rodgers did use the drafting of his eventual successor as motivation to play at an even higher level, and he won the NFL MVP Award in each of the two proceeding seasons.
But after a down year (for him) in 2022, the Packers felt the time was right for them to move on and give Love a chance to play. Rodgers was subsequently traded to the New York Jets, and spent two tumultuous seasons with what many believe is one of the most dysfunctional franchises in all of sports. And those two years seem to have changed his view of how things went down in Green Bay.
Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Wants a Familiar Culture on His Next Team

For the first time in his 20-year NFL career, Rodgers is a free agent. But while he is now free to sign with any team, the problem he has found is that there are not many teams that are interested in his services. Recently, he was informed by the Minnesota Vikings that they did not plan on pursuing him at this time. Instead, it appears that they are prepared to roll with JJ McCarthy, who has yet to take an NFL snap, in 2025.
The Vikings pulling themselves out of consideration for Rodgers leaves just two teams interested: the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers. And, apparently, Rodgers is looking for one big thing from either of them: a culture like the one he experienced in Green Bay.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote:
“And along those lines, I’ve heard Rodgers is looking for a culture such as the one in Green Bay.
“I get it if that sounds a little strange after the drama of the four-time MVP’s final years as a Packer. But over the past few months, Rodgers has been open with people around him on his renewed appreciation for what he had for 18 seasons in Wisconsin. Call it a grass-is-greener dynamic if you want, but it definitely has felt, to some of those around him, like spending a couple years as a New York Jet made Rodgers view the situation he had more favorably.”
Rodgers has always said that he will forever love the Packers organization; but that does not take away from the not-so-subtle criticism he heaved their way from 2020-2023. And fans have not forgotten that.
Green Bay Packers Fans Go Off on Aaron Rodgers

When Packers fans learned that Rodgers was looking for a team that had a similar culture as that in Green Bay, well, they had some things to say about it:
This is more proof the Aaron Rodgers breakup was always about his desire for more control.
And more proof Green Bay was absolutely right not to give it to him.

Pretty hard to make the “The Packers didn’t do enough for Rodgers” case when he left for NY, took half the offense with him, then when that didn’t work, was looking for a team with a culture like in Green Bay.

If there is one thing that Packers fans cannot stand, it is a player putting himself over the organization. That is what Rodgers did, and that is something not so easily forgotten.
