Aaron Rodgers is one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, let alone in the long storied annals of the Green Bay Packers. Yet, as great as his 20-year career has been, he now finds himself without many options to call home in 2025. Following his release from the New York Jets (with a post-June 1 designation), there were not many teams rushing to bid for the four-time NFL MVP’s services.
When trade rumors swirled around Rodgers in 2022, there were a plethora of teams interested in him. Green Bay, however, held onto him for one more season before ultimately sending him to the Jets in 2023. It was at that time, of course, that the Packers handed over the keys of the offense to Jordan Love.
But after missing 2023 with a torn Achilles, and after showing serious signs of decline in 2024, Rodgers does not have the huge number of suitors that he had before. In fact, there are only two. One of them, however, has emerged as the clear-cut favorite to sign him.
It Is a Safe Bet that Former Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers Will Sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers

Just a couple of weeks ago, there appeared to be three teams interested in signing Rodgers for the 2025 NFL season. One of them, the Minnesota Vikings (who Rodgers apparently wanted to sign with the most) has since informed the future Pro Football Hall of Famer they will not be pursuing him at this time.
Their decision to pull out of the Rodgers “Sweepstakes” left the New York Giants and Pittsburgh Steelers. Over the weekend, it was reported that the former Packers quarterback spent six hours in Pittsburgh, meeting with Steelers coaches and front office personnel.
Meanwhile, the Giants signed former Cleveland Browns quarterback Jameis Winston.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, all signs are pointing to Rodgers signing with Pittsburgh at this point:
“The ‘when’ remains to be seen. The ‘if’ is slowly becoming more clear.
“As one source in the general vicinity of those who would be in position to know said Sunday, it’s a “safe bet” that quarterback Aaron Rodgers eventually will sign with the Steelers.”
This certainly makes sense for Rodgers, as Pittsburgh was 10-7 last season, which would make them a much preferred destination over the Giants, who were 3-14. Additionally, the Steelers recently traded for Pro Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Interestingly, signing with the Steelers would also mean Rodgers would get to face the Packers for the first time as an opponent. Green Bay is scheduled to visit the Steelers at some point during the 2025 season.
Of course, this would be a highly anticipated matchup between Love and Rodgers, quarterback versus his old organization (that he believes slighted him).
Of note, the Packers have not won in Pittsburgh since 1970.
