Much of the praise for the Milwaukee Bucks’ impressive 19-point comeback against the Indiana Pacers goes to Giannis Antetokounmpo and rightfully so but Gary Trent Jr. needs more shoutout, too.
Trent Jr., acquired at the start of the season, described the victory as a team win. He hit two clutch threes to disheartened the Pacers.
He finished the game with 14 points of the bench and added two rebounds and two steals.
Trent Jr. was signed for his 3-point shooting at the start of the season but for coach Doc Rivers, he does more than that.
Rivers was left impressed by GT’s defense against the Pacers which has a lot of guards that can create shots.
“You know, it’s funny, there’s certain stats that just always carry. You know, rebounds, if you get rebounds, you always are a good rebound. If you’re a guy to get deflections, you’re always a guy to get deflections, and I bet he had his hands on 10 balls today,” Rivers said post game.
The bench was effective for the Bucks on New Year’s even.
Aside from Trent Jr., Bobby Portis played great after being relegated to a sixth man with the Greek Freak’s return with his 14 points and 15 rebounds.
Taurean Prince and AJ Green had nine each.
Gary Trent Jr. explains comeback vs Pacers
The Bucks had some sort of struggle after their NBA Cup finals win. It did not look, too, that they will overcome that in the first two quarters against the Pacers?
How did they manage to grab the victory?
The 2018 37th overall pick said it is about trusting each other.
“We didn’t point fingers we stayed locked in, talking to each other, motivating each other, what we see, what we need to do better.”
Trent and the Bucks will return to action on Thursday against the Brooklyn Nets.
