On Friday, the current point guard of the Boston Celtics, Jrue Holiday, faced his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks. Holiday helped the team with a 111-105 win and had 20 points, six rebounds and seven assists. Following the game, he discussed his mentality about facing his previous team.
Holiday spoiled the season debut of his former teammate, Khris Middleton, who played for the first time in the 2024-25 NBA season. He spent most of the time recovering from his double ankle surgeries over the summer. Additionally, he gave the Bucks their 11th loss of the year on the 30th birthday of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“When it’s tip-off to the buzzer, I wanna win,” Holiday said. “It’s great seeing them every time I play and probably even more so because they are like my brothers and I wanna whoop their a** every time and they know that too, they feel the same way about me. It’s just being competitors.”
“To be able to switch it on and off, I don’t know. It’s just like, ‘Hey bro, good to see you,’ and then once the game starts, it’s like, ‘Nah, we not friends anymore’.”

With their win on Friday, the Celtics completed the three-game season series sweep against the Bucks.
Holiday spent three seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks and helped them win the 2021 NBA championship. Sadly for the point guard, the team traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers, which paved the way for his subsequent trade to the Celtics. He averaged 18.5 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 6.8 assists when he was in Milwaukee.
Holiday won his second NBA championship with the Celtics when he and Derrick White formed a formidable defensive backcourt.
Celtics star hypes former Milwaukee Bucks guard
Jayson Tatum played a significant part in the Celtics’ win against the Milwaukee Bucks. Tatum had 34 points, 10 rebounds and five assists while shooting 40% from deep. Following the game, the star forward had high praise for the former Bucks guard.
The five-time All-Star spoke highly of the team’s starting point guard after he missed the past two games.
“It does a lot,” Tatum said about Holiday’s presence on the court. “We compliment Jrue about being a Swiss-army knife. We put him on point guard, we put him on the big man. We have him setting screens, we have him handle the ball, facilitate. We have him post guards up. We just have Jrue do a little bit of everything . And he’s a big part of why we are who we are, and why we’re a special team.”
