Former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy parted ways with the Dallas Cowboys last week and is looking for a new head coaching job in the NFL. McCarthy went 7-10 with Dallas in 2024.
He lost quarterback Dak Prescott during the 2024 season because of injury and he won some games with Cooper Rush as the starting quarterback. McCarthy is probably thrilled that he doesn’t have to work alongside Cowboys owner Jerry Jones anymore. Mike McCarthy could potentially land the Chicago Bears opening for the 2025 NFL season.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter Provides Update On Former Green Bay Packers Head Coach Mike McCarthy
ESPN’s Adam Schefter went onto the Pat McAfee show on Monday to provide an update on McCarthy. Schefter said:
“I think Mike McCarthy is in play in Chicago and New Orleans.. He’s a legitimate candidate in both places.”
The Bears and the Saints are both looking for new head coaches. Chicago could be the better job for McCarthy to pursue rather than the New Orleans job. It will be interesting to see which one he would decide to take if both teams offered him.

McCarthy to the bears has been on lock since before most of those bears fan profiles even created their AI Ben Johnson profile pics

As a BEARS fan, I would be happy with McCarthy as the head coach. BEARS need a culture builder

Really hope it’s Chicago 😂

He’s not a legit candidate in NOLA he hasn’t gotten a single request by them saints are already doing 2nd interviews he’s def not in play there

Interestingly, the Bears fanbase wants to see the former Green Bay Packers coach on the Bears. Mike McCarthy only won one Super Bowl title with the Packers, but Chicago fans want to be consistent again. The Saints will be interviewing New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka for a second time for the head coaching vacancy. If McCarthy does not land the Chicago or New Orleans job, then maybe he will not coach during the 2025 NFL season.
