Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa hasn’t won a game against Aaron Rodgers. Well, they faced each other just once so far.
It happened when Rodgers was still with the Green Bay Packers and Tagovailoa’s chance to get back at him just wouldn’t come because of the legendary QB’s injury issues.
The Dolphins star, just 26 years old, will finally have a shot at the player he admires on Sunday and he can’t help but feel excited about the encounter.
“It’s been a long time coming, but it’s super cool,” he told reporters on Tuesday, few days after they lost to the Green Bay Packers.
“I’m excited to see him go out there and have fun with his guys and play. Hopefully they don’t do too good against our guys, but we’re going to come out there and we’re going to compete, as well, and just admire good football, if he goes out there and does his thing.”
The 41-year-old Rodgers left the Packers in 2022 and joined the New York Jets the next year.
He played just one game in 2023 after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in his first ever game in Jets uniform.
Tagovailoa may be a fan boy but he insists that he will remain a competitor and hope that they will come away with the win.
Aaron Rodgers is an admirer of Tua Tagovailoa
There’s not much interaction between Tua and the four-time MVP but they make it a point to express their admiration of each other and looking out for their welfare.
When Tagovailoa got injured in 2022 due to concussion, Rodgers advised him to consider resting the whole for the whole season to avoid grave injury.
“I like the kid, I think he’s a real good kid. I like the way he speaks and represents his team and goes about his business. … I just hope he gets the right help to make the right decision for him.”
Tagovailoa did not heed this advice but Rodgers was right. The Dolphins QB is definitely a good player as he is now their franchise QB and is among their longest-tenured player.
