The DePaul Blue Demons had #7 Marquette Golden Eagles on the ropes in the final seconds of the game. DePaul had a 65-64 lead in the second half until they turned the ball over and gave the ball back to Marquette.
Chase Ross hit a go-ahead three-point shot with six seconds remaining in regulation. With three seconds remaining, Conor Enright scored the game-tying basket for DePaul because of a goaltending call on Ben Gold. They reviewed the play and the play stood as called. Kam Jones missed the game-winning shot in regulation, but DePaul fell in overtime against Marquette by a final score of 85-83.
DePaul Blue Demons Fans React To Another Big East Conference Loss Against the Marquette Golden Eagles
With the loss for DePaul, they dropped to 9-9 overall on the season and they are 0-7 in Big East Conference play. As for Marquette, they improved to 15-2 on the season and have a 6-0 record in Big East Conference play.
Many Blue Demons fans were hoping for a major conference win on Tuesday night, but they will have to wait another day to get a win in conference play. DePaul almost caught Marquette off-guard, but the star players for the Golden Eagles prevailed in the win for them over the Blue Demons. There is a chance that the DePaul Blue Demons can finally win a game or two in conference play this season.
Game Stats
Chris Holtmann is the head coach of the Blue Demons. Five different players scored in double figures for DePaul. CJ Gunn led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Rivera also scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the DePaul Blue Demons against the Marquette Golden Eagles.
Jacob Meyer scored 12 points, Conor Enright scored 11 points, and NJ Benson also added 10 points for DePaul. It is a good sign for this basketball program that five different players scored in double figures for the Blue Demons. Maybe it will continue for them moving forward and win a couple of conference games. Had DePaul upset Marquette on Tuesday night, it would have been one of the biggest stories in college basketball.
