Basketball is as physical as it is mental — just ask the Los Angeles Clippers about it.
Just like a chess match, winning a basketball game requires having a tactic that works, and that was exemplified by Los Angeles in last Saturday’s win in Inglewood over the Milwaukee Bucks via a score of 127-117. After the game, LA head coach Ty Lue explained his decision to go with a smaller lineup on the floor against the Doc Rivers squad, a strategy that undeniably worked, as evidenced by the Clips’ win.
Via Swish Cultures:
Ty Lue on tonight’s win vs the Bucks: “Deciding to go small was good for us. James — spectacular… Norm was good down the stretch as well. James and Norm were huge for us tonight.”
Small ball worked for the Clippers vs. Milwaukee
In the decisive fourth quarter of the contest, the Clips played big man Ivica Zubac for only four minutes while giving heavy playing time in the period to the likes of Norman Powell (12 minutes) and Kevin Porter Jr. (10 minutes). Still, Los Angeles outscored Milwaukee in the fourth, 33-24.
That small lineup forced five Milwaukee turnovers while the Clippers only had a single TO in the final 12 minutes of the contest. Playing small allowed LA to have better defense on the perimeter, with Damian Lillard going just 2-for-6 from the field and committing two turnovers in the fourth quarter.
The Clips improved to 26-19 after the win over Milwaukee, which, in turn, dropped to 25-18.
