Ryan Braun and Christian Yelich will both go down as among the greatest Milwaukee Brewers but one MLB analyst thinks the club should do something about the latter before it gets too late.
Currently recovering, Yelich won the MVP in 2018 and led the Brewers to some playoff success. His game mellowed down after that no thanks to various injuries.
He was able to return to top form in 2024, getting named to the All-Star, but a back injury in August forced the Brewers to subject him to a season-ending surgery by September.
Braun played all his MLB years in Milwaukee but the twilight years was not as impressive during his All-Star years.
FanSided’s Brian Sampson thinks Yelich’s career trajectory is similar to that of Braun.
“Christian Yelich has been the face of the Brewers since his arrival in 2018, but his career trajectory has eerily mirrored that of former franchise icon Ryan Braun,” Sampson said.
“Yelich soared to the top of the league with his NL MVP-winning season in 2018, a year after Milwaukee acquired him in a blockbuster trade. The following season, he was on pace for back-to-back MVP awards before a freak injury ended his campaign and derailed his career trajectory.”
Christian Yelich should be traded
The end of Braun’s time with the Brewers was not pleasant. It was in fact ended unceremoniously.
Milwaukee chose to pay him the $4 million buyout instead of exercising the $15 million option in 2020, making him a free agent for the first time in his career.
Sampson suggested that Brewers should try to avoid going through the same scenario when it comes to Yelich.
Trading Yelich would be a bittersweet decision, but it’s one the Brewers may have to consider. With a no-trade clause in place, Yelich would need to approve any deal. However, the Brewers could find a suitor willing to let him play more in the outfield, potentially enticing him to waive his clause. Moving Yelich would mark the end of an era, but it could also be the start of a new one.
