UW Madison has announced that Robin Pingeton will take over the women’s hoops team’s new head coach following the conclusion of her season with the Missouri Tigers women’s basketball which he coached for 15 years.
Fan reactions were not that receptive given her 2024-2025 season record. The 56-year-old mentor is 250-218 at Missouri or a .534 winning percentage. However, her record for the past six seasons are not that attractive.
Plus, she went 3-13 in in the SEC last season which hardly improved from their 2-14 finish last season.
UW-Madison Director of Athletic Chris McIntosh is aware of the record but it seems to have not factored in during the process of hiring Pingeton.

“I spent a fair amount of time talking to Robin about that,” McIntosh said via Jim Polzin of Wisconsin State Journal .
“I think there were a lot of things that she and that program experienced during that period of time. Clearly I remain optimistic about her ability to help us build here, and I also think that there’s value in having leadership with that type of experience.”
Why Pingeton for Wisconsin Badgers?
So what made Pingeton a great candidate for McIntosh?
“I’m excited about the fact that she has a history of building programs, and clearly we’re at a point where we need someone to help us build,” he said.
“She understands what it takes and how difficult it is to do that, and she’s demonstrated her ability to do that.”
Pingeton for her part is excited to start relationship with the Badgers.

“Relationships are very important to me,” she said.
“I appreciate the time I spent with Chris McIntosh and Marcus Sedberry and I can tell my value system aligns with the people at Wisconsin. I learned a lot in almost 15 years in the Southeastern Conference and I am ready to apply that in Madison while also evolving with the changing landscape in college athletics. There is a rich tradition of athletics success at Wisconsin and I can’t wait to get started!”
