Washington Commanders defensive end Chase Young is linked to a potential trade with the Green Bay Packers rival, the Detriot Lions, according to Matthew Schmidt of nflanalysis.net. Young will be a free agent at the end of the season with Washington. They declined his fifth-year player option before the 2023 regular season started.
The thought of Young being with the Detroit Lions would be interesting. Detroit is on track to win the NFC North this season and potentially be a Super Bowl Contender if they play well. However, Washington can very well have a 3-2 record after Thursday night because they are facing the Chicago Bears, who are currently winless so far this season.
The Commanders could very well be in the playoff race in the NFC, so there is a chance they could maybe hang onto him after all. But even if Washington does trade him and they are in the playoff picture, Detroit could be a dangerous football team, and they are getting better on the defensive side of the ball.
Chase Young Going to the Green Bay Packers rival, the Detroit Lions, would be Scary Because of him and Aidan Hutchinson
In four games played for the Washington Commanders so far this season, Young has 11 total tackles and has recorded 2.5 sacks. Aidan Hutchinson, on the other side of him, would be scary. This means that opposing offensive lines would have to prepare for both players, and they wouldn’t be able to double-team either of them.
The Lions are 3-1 on the year, and it would be interesting to see if Detroit makes any moves before then, maybe like this one, for example. There will be a market for sure for Chase Young when we get closer to the October 31 NFL trade deadline. If the Detroit Lions, the Green Bay Packers rival, decided to make a move for Young, they would maybe have to find a way to sign him to a long-term contract extension.
Hutchinson, in four games so far this season for the Lions, has recorded 15 total tackles and 3.5 sacks. He is becoming one of the best defensive ends in the NFL, and Detroit could contend with the elite teams in the conference if they also acquired Chase Young via trade.
