It’s a double whammy for the Marquette Golden Eagles on Wednesday as they not only lost to lower ranked Iowa State Cyclones but also lost guard Chase Ross to injury.
The Wisconsin team were listless against their hosts to start the game and they had to chase them by the second half but came up short still.
It did not help, too, that the junior guard had to leave the game after going down with an ankle injury in the first half.
Ross was tapped as a replacement for Zaide Lowery in the starting line-up after the latter got hurt in their win against the Western Carolina Catamounts.
The 21-year-old guard only had 2 points in ten minutes.
The defeat is Marquette’s first this season. David Joplin scored 8 points and had 3 blocks in the loss while Kai Jones recorded an almost triple double with 14-8-9.
Great takeaway from the game for the Golden Eagles is the bench as Royce Parham and Damarius Owens scored a combined 28 points.
Chase Ross injury update from Shaka Smart
The Golden Eagles is going to have a guard problem as they prepare for their next game against state rivals Wisconsin Badgers.
Smart said Ross’ situation remains unknown but he knows that his already wearing a boot.
He also lamented the injury as he sees Ross as a great part of the team’s run.
I wish I knew…he is in a boot now…we get him checked out when we get home…he is such a valuable player for us…but when he went down it was clear right away that he was not going to be able to come back in,” he said.
