A former NBA player beefing with a trainer is probably not on any NBA fans’ bingo card but it is happening now as Milwaukee Bucks legend Brandon Jennings is going back and forth with Jayson Tatum’s trainer after he called the Boston Celtics star ‘soft.’
Someone insulting your work can really be irritating and Drew Hanlen took exceptions on the words used by Jennings in Gilbert Arenas’ podcast about his client.
“Is [Jayson Tatum] the softest Boston Celtics superstar ever. … I think I’ll be more afraid of Jaylen Brown than Jayson Tatum,” Jennings said.
The comments got to Hanlen and he brought out the big guns in an attempt to debunk the former NBA player’s claim.
“I liked Brandon Jennings as a player but we gotta stop the [cap],” he said.
“His comment that Tatum is ‘soft’ is pathetic. A soft player couldn’t lead their team in PTS, REB & AST to a title. A soft player wouldn’t have 51 in a G7 or 31/11/8 to win finals.”
Jayson Tatum responds to Brandon Jennings
Jennings, who grew into a fan favorite in Wisconsin despite average numbers, was actually not done after that response from Hanlen. He said Tatum should win the MVP this season, as if saying that’s the only thing will change his mind about the Celtics player.
“Since you his trainer, make sure he gets MVP this year… I heard you wrote a book called ‘Stop the bulls***’, I’m gonna write part two if he don’t get it.”
The give-time All-Star is taking notes. He did not respond directly to the harsh comment but he posted on Instagram with a caption that clearly references Jennings’ take.
Jennings still wouldn’t let it go. He even commented on Tatum’s post:
“This is the energy I want.”
