Greece national basketball team’s preparations for the Eurobasket 2025 is in full swing but one big name is missing in their pre-tournament scrimmages with other countries – Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Greek Freak’s participation to the 2025 games appeared locked even last year and he confirmed it last week by posting himself in new Greece team threads.

However, he was absent in their first two friendly games with Israel and Serbia which they both lost. Where is Giannis and why can’t he join despite his personal excitement and the fans’ clamor to have him? A Greek report claimed it was because of the trade transactions that occurred in the NBA.
Local news outlet SDNA claimed that Antetokounmpo, who also has his brothers Thanasis and Kostas in the national team, is not participating because of an unpaid insurance which is in place in case of accident or injury.
The report suggests there was doubt from the Milwaukee Bucks that they will be able to keep him this 2025, something that NBA media repeatedly say.

“Perhaps because the Bucks are waiting to see whether the much-talked-about trade will happen or if Giannis will stay in Milwaukee. Otherwise, the agreement will have to be made with his next team,” SDNA wrote in Greek.
Giannis Antetokounmpo will join Greece’s games soon
SDNA note, however, that this will be all solved soon.
“Logic says the alarm will be over within the next ten days. Still, the HBF (Greek Basketball Federation) remains deafeningly absent and exposed before Greek fans, who wonder why Giannis Antetokounmpo isn’t training with the rest of the team and why he isn’t playing in the friendlies,” it said.

This bit should be big news for many as Antetokounmpo’s name has been dragged in many trade rumors since April.
Bucks general manager Jon Horst assured that the two-time MVP will stay. Team president Peter Feigin said they laughed at the rumors calling them ridiculous.
This news, however, shed new light on Antetokounmpo’s future saga.
