Khris Middleton started the season from the bench for the Milwaukee Bucks after missing the first month due to injury. The team had a relative success but things went a different way when he was inserted into his usual role as a starter when Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard went down due to illness.
The trio played together against the Portland Trailblazers but it did not lead to a much-needed win.
Many thought the problem is the bench lacking the firepower and leader whenever Antetokounmpo and Lillard goes to the bench.
The suggested solution is to bring Middleton from the bench. Head coach Doc Rivers did not reject the idea but said that they are considering everything including K-Midd as a sixth man.
“It’s just too early,” Rivers said. “Listen, all that stuff is talked about all the time. We’re going to always just do what’s best for the team.”
In a report by The Athletic, quoting Cleaning the Glass, the five on the floor with the Big 3 present is not that productive.
They “have shot 60.6 percent at the rim (only in the 11th percentile), 36.8 from midrange (10th) and 29.6 percent from 3 (second) in 96 minutes this season.”
Khris Middleton at the center of trade rumors
Some people think that going from being a starter into a reliever is a demotion. And that could signal the end of one’s time with the team in case the player is not sold on the idea.
Middleton’s time with the team is being monitored amid news of Jimmy Butler’s trade request from the Miami Heat.
NBA reporter John Gambadoro said the Bucks have an interest to trade for the six-time All-Star.
Brett Siegel of Clutch Points plotted a deal to make that happen and the Bucks will cost them Middleton and two other players.
Is Middleton going to remain a significant Buck this season?
