The Providence Friars are hoping to get back on their feet soon after dropping their last two games but that might be a difficult task as they will face the Marquette Golden Eagles in the Big East.
It will be extra harder for coach Kim English’s squad as they might continue to be without top scorer and top rebounder Bryce Hopkins.
The Sun Chronicle reported that the 22-year-old forward remains a game-time decision for Providence who lost their last two games without him.
Both games could’ve gone a different way. Providence lost by just four points against the St Bonaventure Bonnies and then only by 2 points against Big East no. 1 team St. John Red Storm.
Hopkins tallies 17 points per game for Providence along with 7 rebounds.
English said a few days ago that he is on his way to recovery but they don’t want to risk him.
“Getting (Hopkins) back feeling better and better,” English said. “There was pain — we didn’t want him to go with any pain.”
Marquette Golden Eagles injury report versus Friars
The Golden Eagles, currently second behind Red Storm with an identical record of 11-2, is dealing with injuries of their own.
Sean Jones continues his recovery from an ACL surgery he had in January this year.
Good thing for coach Shaka Smart, Kam Jones and David Joplin have been playing tremendously in the past months.
Joplin reached the 1,000-point mark for Golden Eagles, a feat that can be extended since the power forward still has two years left.
“Any time you have someone that’s scored over 1,000 points at the same school, you’re just grateful that he’s been around that long,” Smart said. “And we got two-thirds of our season left with him.”
