San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was added to the injury report on Wednesday for dealing with a sore shoulder on his right (throwing) side. He was limited in practice, and didn’t throw a pass on the first day the 49ers had to prepare for their Week 12 matchup with the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
The 5-5 49ers need Purdy to be as healthy as possible against the Packers. San Francisco is quickly running out of weeks to get over .500 and back into the chase for a playoff spot. Backup quarterbacks Brandon Allen and Joshua Dobbs are not going to keep the 49ers in the playoff hunt.
Purdy is struggling to keep the 49ers afloat even with his talents. On Wednesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan blamed the team around the third-year quarterback for his drop in production in 2024. Shanahan said he had not seen progress from Purdy this season.
Brock Purdy is still dealing with a shoulder injury
Per David Lombardi with the San Francisco Standard, Purdy was back throwing on Thursday, but left practice early.
“Here’s Brock Purdy during initial warmups today, before he began throwing,” Lombardi posted on X. “We’re not allowed to film QBs throwing until Period 4, and Purdy left the field around the start of Period 3.”

The San Francisco 49ers kept Purdy away from the media
Following practice Purdy was not made available to the media like he normally is on Thursdays.
“Update: No Brock Purdy press conference today (Thursdays are his normal day to go),” Lombardi posted. “He wasn’t in the locker room while it was open to the media. So there are questions but not answers at this point after Purdy left Thursday’s practice around the third period.”

Kyle Shanahan hopes Purdy will play the Green Bay Packers
Shanahan offered an update on Purdy Thursday during an appearance on KNBR.
“I don’t think it [affected Purdy’s throws Sunday]. Just pain-wise and stuff getting warmed up on the sideline, Shanahan said, via a transcription from Lombardi. “In terms of his throwing, I didn’t see anything that looked any different. He didn’t complain about that in any way to me.
“He was still limited today. He didn’t do as much yesterday. Did a little bit more today. But by no means was he doing his normal workload. Went out there and did a little. Went back in about halfway through and rested his arm up, continued to get his rehab. Hopefully, it will feel great on Sunday.”

Shanahan is now hopeful Purdy will be okay against the Packers. We all remember when he was hopeful Christian McCaffrey would play the Jets.
