Willy Adames’ signature is still for anybody’s taking as no decision yet is being made by the Milwaukee Brewers on their in-demand shortstop. A lot of names are being attached to him though, with the latest one being a National League club.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer believe Philadelphia Phillies is among the teams with the most need of Adames services and quality.
He wrote:
He rated as one of the best defensive shortstops in baseball in 2022 and 2023, but that changed in 2024. Most notably, his Defensive Runs Saved swung all the way from +8 in ’23 to -16 this year.
Arm strength nonetheless remained among Adames’ inventory of skills, so his reported willingness to move to third base is a good call on his part. It’s all the more reason to think he can shoot for Dansby Swanson’s seven-year, $177 million deal.
Adames joined the Brewers in 2021 and has been a significant player for them since then. On September 2 this year, he tied five other legendary players on major league shortstop record of hitting a home run in five consecutive games.
Other teams with interest on Adames are the New York Yankees, New York Mets, and reportedly the Texas Rangers.
Chances of Willy Adames remaining a Brewer
Adames is going to depart the Brewers not because he is an unwanted man. It is because of his projected salary.
Milwaukee is being encouraged to make sure that they will be able to replace with him with a shortstop that is of the same quality.
There is still a possibility though that he will return to the American Family Field.
According to manager Pat Murphy, the 29-year-old could return if he does not get the deal he is looking for.
“If he (Adames) comes back, that means he didn’t get the deal that he was looking for,” the Brewers manager said during an appearance at the “Foul Territory” podcast.
“I don’t even think about it, to be honest with you, because he’s going to get what he wants.”
