Milwaukee catcher William Contreras is one of the major pieces of his team. Despite playing through apparent pain in his finger, Contreras has managed to be an asset for the Brewers, who have already secured a slot in the upcoming 2025 MLB postseason.
Through Tuesday, Contreras is hitting .265/.359/.407 with 17 home runs and 76 RBIs over 143 games. While those are respectable numbers, they are not on par with what he had in 2024, when he hit .281/.365/.466 with 23 home runs and 92 RBIs, while earning an All-Star nod and posting a 130 OPS+.
This time around, he is only carrying a 114 OPS+, on pace to be his worst since he had an OPS+ in 2021, when he played in just 52 games.
Brewers catcher shows off finger injury
Contreras likely would have put up better slashes if not for his hurting finger that he continues to deal with. He had an X-ray on his left middle finger in May, revealing a fracture.
But Contreras has braved through it. He even shared a photo of his finger via a post on Facebook.
“We are Good,” Contreras wrote as a caption for his post, which shows his raised middle finger while driving.

Fans left several comments on the photo.
“And you keep on pushing. That is what we all love about you.,” said a fan on Facebook.
Another one said: “You are amazing and don’t need to be giving your fans the finger! 😂😂 Ouch! Milwaukee loves you and we can’t wait to see what October brings. Go Crew! ❤️❤️⚾️🏟️”
From a commenter: “Your outstanding play despite this injury is amazing. Keep it up we need you!”
“Much Respect! As a guy who played a ton of baseball through my teens into early twenties as a Catcher at the H.S. and college level I know the pain you have to be playing through, especially catching 100+ mph balls!,” a social media user posted.
Via a different commenter: “Your dedication to the game and outstanding play despite this injury is inspirational⚾️Thank you for being my favorite Brewer!”
Said another: “You are most dedicated. Stay strong. You can take time to heal in November.”
While it’s not an ideal predicament for Contreras, at least his finger issue hasn’t stopped him from contributing to Milwaukee, which has 11 more games to play in the 2025 MLB regular season.
