The Milwaukee Brewers have reportedly started steps to sell Willy Adamas and with the player of his quality, there will be takers. The problem would be his contract though.
That is what The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal sees as the only setback for Houston Astros who he confirmed as among the suitors of the 29-year-old shortstop.
The money is an issue but Astros’ interest is there, Rosenthal said.
This is because the Houston club is still facing the possibility of losing All-Star Alex Bregman.
“Both Bregman and Adames, however, are drawing attention outside of the Soto market,” Rosenthal said.
“The Houston Astros are continuing their efforts to re-sign Bregman, while also setting up contingencies. The team is staying in contact with Adames, and has expressed interest in another free agent, Jorge Polanco, as a fallback option.”
Adames, who had a batting average of .248 for the Brewers last season together with 32 home runs, is projected to earn $152 million in six years.
In case Bergman extends with the Astros, other teams will continue their chase of his signature.
Other teams interested on Willy Adames
The Boston Red Sox is among the teams showing interest on Adames.
USA Today writer Bob Nighteangle recently revealed that the Red Sox are already sorting the squad to make way for Adames.
“The (Boston) Red Sox also have a strong interest in All-Star free-agent shortstop Willy Adames, who is willing to move to third base,” he wrote on Monday.
“They have scheduled an upcoming meeting and have internally discussed moving Rafael Devers off third base.”
So who’s going to replace him on the Brewers?
Free agent Paul Goldschmidt‘s name is in the mix.
The first-baseman last played for the St. Louis Cardinals and decided to become a free agent at the end of 2024 season.
He is a 7× All-Star although the last time he reached it was in 2022. He has a batting average of .289 through the 2024 season and made 22 home runs this year.
