The Green Bay Packers have the NFL world as their oyster right now. With Jordan Love still being a net positive on the team’s cap space over the next few years, the team has a lot of money they can play with. Even with their current low space, they can restructure contracts and play their FO magic to get the free agents they want to obtain.
The Packer’s drafting, meanwhile, is where things become rather curious. They can go one of several directions – they can treat the draft like it’s free agency and get immediate impact players, or they can draft players to develop in the long run like they normally do.
They may just go the offensive line route which is typically a development position. With how good the OL prospects are this year, the Packers could get someone who immediately helps keep Jordan Love upright.
One of the best first-round prospects that could fall to Green Bay’s 25th overall pick selection is Amarius Mins, a tackle from Georgia. Some analysts have the Packers picking him up if he falls that hard – here’s how he measures.
How Good Is Amarius Mims?
There’s almost nothing to complain about with Amarius. He’s 6’7″ and has hovered around 300 pounds throughout his college career.
He’s extremely agile for someone that size, and of course there’s room for improvement in that area of his game. He has pretty good footwork with both his run and pass blocking, doing a really good job setting up screens out in space.
Mims is also really good with his handwork, doing a good job with outside and inside pass rushers. He can handle the elite speed rushers while also being big and sturdy enough to handle the big bull-rush attackers.
His stats back up his film, too. In around 300 total snaps last year he gave up 2 pressures and 0 sacks. His competition wasn’t exactly easy either. He seems like the real deal and is loved by anyone who’s watched his tape, so the Packers wouldn’t be making a controversial pick with him.
Where Could Amarius Mims Play On The Green Bay Packers O-Line?
With David Bakhtiari’s lingering knee issues and a hefty contract, questions arose about whether the Packers could afford to keep him.
The Packers opted to release Bakhtiari, creating much-needed cap space but leaving a gaping hole at left tackle. With free agency mostly over, the Packers don’t have many to choose from when it comes to the offensive line. They can still add depth for sure, but the Left Tackle position requires a heavy presence and can not be taken lightly. Most Left Tackles in the NFL are first-round picks, and there’s a big reason for that.
