The Milwaukee Brewers are to lose one of their best-performing shortstops in Willy Adames. The Brewers have their hands tied in terms of spending and are unlikely to retain Adames. While this is definitely bad news for the Milwaukee Brewers and their fans, the info has other teams smiling at the prospect of getting the slugger on their team.
According to Bob Nightengale from USA Today, the Boston Red Sox are very interested in getting Willy Adames for their upcoming season. Boston is already making changes to their team in order to accommodate Adames.
“The (Boston) Red Sox also have a strong interest in All-Star free-agent shortstop Willy Adames, who is willing to move to third base,” USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote Monday. “They have scheduled an upcoming meeting and have internally discussed moving Rafael Devers off third base.” Nightengale reported.
While it is true that the Boston Red Sox are trying to pave a way to get Adames on their side, they are not the only team who is interested in the free agent shortstop. The Los Angeles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees all seem to be trying to land Adames.
Willy Adames has been quite favorable for the Brewers, and quickly became a fan-favorite player. However, in order to re-sign the player, Milwaukee will have to spend quite a major chunk since his market value is projected to reach around $160 million.
Milwaukee Brewers Reportedly Eyeing Paul Goldschmidt As Willy Adames Replacement
While the Milwaukee Brewers are getting ready to bid goodbye to shortstop Willy Adames, they are getting ready to bring in other prospects as potential replacements. Since Adames’ absence will create a major hole in Milwaukee’s offense, the Brewers are apparently eyeing first-baseman Paul Goldschmidt.
As per Bob Nightengale from USA Today, Milwaukee is showing eagerness to bring in Goldschmidt to cover first base, despite Rhys Hoskins still staying with the Brewers. This will be quite tricky for the Brewers, but the team is desperate to bolster their offense with Adames leaving Milwaukee.
Paul Goldschmidt will be a valuable addition to the Milwaukee Brewers, with the veteran player having about 14 years of experience in the game. Goldschmidt is also bringing rich experiences with top-tier teams like the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 37-year-old player also won the MVP Award in 2022 for the National League.
