Aaron Rodgers is not the only former Green Bay Packer that will be on the New York Jets next year. Allen Lazard signed a four-year deal to play in New York next year and former offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett will be calling plays for the Jets. Lazard had some high praise for Hackett in a recent interview.
Allen Lazard On Nathaniel Hackett
Lazard is very excited to have Hackett as a coach again. “The best teacher I’ve ever had in my life,” Lazard said of Hackett. He played in Hackett’s system for three years and apparently has never had a teacher as good as him. Lazard was a nobody until a game against the Lions put him on the map. He clearly thrives in Hackett’s system even though he had his best statistical season last year, Lazard credits Hackett for his success.
Can Hackett Call Plays?
I like Hackett. His time in Green Bay was a success. However, there are real questions about his playcalling. He didn’t call plays in Green Bay. It was Matt LaFleur who was in charge of that duty. In Denver, he did call plays and he did not last a season. One of the big questions for the Jets is whether Hackett can be a successful play caller. Head coach Robert Saleh is a defensive-minded coach so Hackett will be the primary engine that makes the offense go.

I for one am happy for Allen Lazard. His story is a good one and the fact that he got his payday is great. It will be interesting to see how he does on a new team. Former Green Bay Packers have not always had success in other places. The 2023 season already has a lot of intrigue for both of these teams.
