Aaron Rodgers said before that he plans to take some time to decide whether he’ll play in 2025 or hang up his cleats for good. Now that the New York Jets have hired Aaron Glenn as head coach and Darren Mougey as general manager, all eyes are back on Rodgers.
Aaron Glenn didn’t give a definitive answer on the Rodgers situation in New York. However, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network said that the former Detroit Lions coordinator is open to working with the former four-time league MVP.
The New York Jets need to know about Rodgers soon because the team faces a pivotal offseason following a nightmare 2024 campaign, where they finished third in the AFC East with a 5-12 record.
Aaron Rodgers has one year left on his current contract and carries a $23.5 million cap hit. New York will face a $49 million cap hit if the 41-year-old quarterback retires or is released.
ESPN analyst offers advice on how the New York Jets should deal with Aaron Rodgers
Last Monday, Dan Orlovsky advised the New York Jets to give Aaron Rodgers a deadline on his key decision to have a clearer picture of what they’ll do this offseason.
“I think you’re telling Aaron Rodgers, ‘You can have until the Super Bowl,’” Orlovsky said. “By the Super Bowl, you gotta tell us if you’re playing or not. If we want you here (which they do), you gotta let us know by the Super Bowl.”
The New York Jets played their last regular season game on January 5, so Orlovsky’s deadline would give Rodgers over a month to contemplate his future.
