Aaron Rodgers played 18 seasons for the Green Bay Packers before being traded this past offseason to the New York Jets. The former Packers signal-caller is now 39 years old and was more than likely looking to win a Super Bowl with another franchise team. Rodgers is guaranteed over $75 million for the next two seasons with the New York Jets.
Paul Pierce’s Statement About Aaron Rodgers
Some other professional athletes perhaps see Aaron Rodgers on the way out. NBA Hall of Famer, Paul Pierce recently spoke on the KG Certified podcast about his thoughts on Rodger’s chance at retiring, or if he may have been close one season ago, stating:
Pierce was asked: “Do you think Aaron Rodgers is gonna be as good as people think he’s gonna be?”
Pierce: “Nope. I think he’s got one foot out of the league. I think he was close to retiring in Green Bay. He was close to retiring. Now, all of sudden, he re-motivated?”
Pierce later added: “When that thought process creeps into your mindset, as an athlete, when you start having that thought process when doubt is created in your head, that’s a form of weakness.”

The NBA Hall of Famer was known as a legend with the Boston Celtics, winning a championship in 2008. As his career went forward, Pierce also played for the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets, and the Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged 19.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
Aaron Rodgers Career Stats
Before Aaron Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets, he had an incredible career in Green Bay. In 18 seasons, Rodgers threw for over 59,000 yards, 475 touchdowns, and 105 interceptions. He did win Super Bowl 45 in 2010 with the Packers, defeating the Steelers 31-25.
Could Rodgers Retire Soon?
Surely, Rodgers was motivated by a new team, the New York Jets, after having great success in Green Bay. Switching to the AFC may have given him a chance to end his career on a high note. But, recently, he had a setback after suffering an injury on Monday night in his first start with the Jets.
The former Packers’ quarterback could possibly be retiring after not getting an opportunity to play with the Jets in this 2023 season. He only took four snaps before leaving the field against the Buffalo Bills. Some players voiced their opinions on what caused Rodgers’s season-ending injury, such as the turf. Aaron Rodgers did not take a hard hit, but it was a wrong turn on the tackle that ended his season.
Paul Pierce’s statement is only based on his thoughts, which could be true about him retiring, even after last season. He is not the only one who thinks like this, but time will tell if Aaron Rodgers feels good enough to come back next year, or if he wants to hang up his jersey, and call it a great career!
