Aaron Rodgers’ future has been a point of drama and uncertainty since the 2024 NFL preseason, but fans finally have some clarity.
Big scoopage: Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on…

ESPN’s Adam Schefter retweeted the post from Glazer, who works at FOX. It appears official, then: the Aaron Rodgers experiment is over in New York.
Aaron Rodgers’ Tenure as New York Jet To Come to Merciful End–Will Davante Adams Follow Him Out?
After signing a 3 year, $112M deal in the 2022 offseason, Rodgers notoriously tore his achilles during his first series as Jets signal caller. In 2024, he played all 17 games, throwing for 3897 yards, 28 TDs and 11 INTs while completing 63% of his passes.
While his volume numbers look decent, his QBR tells a different story. At just 48.1, this wholistic metric is the second lowest of his career. In 2022, his last in Green Bay, he posted a 41.3 rating.
The Jets went 5-12, two wins worse than in 2023 with Zach Wilson.
Davante Adams, Rodgers’ go-to pass catcher in Green Bay, also arrived in New York via a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders.
There has been speculation that both will reunite elsewhere if Rodgers leaves the Jets with Adams following suit.
Last year between the Jets and Raiders, he caught 85 passes for 1063 yards and 8 TDs, his lowest numbers since 2019 with the Packers.
Davante Adams left his 2025 contract unchanged and his $38.3M cap number is untenable. He’d have to agree to a new deal to stay. And with Aaron Rodgers moving on, Adams likely will, as well.
Adams would like to be on the West Coast, I’m told. https://t.co/uMndsRKoKp

Where Next for All-Time Great Who Has Aged Anything But Gracefully?
Fans reacted to the news with a mix of speculation, amusement and cynicism. While the Raiders are the most popular pick, some played around with Rodgers going to the Vikings in a move that would mirror Brett Favre’s late career trajectory.

Other teams that might show interest in signing the 41-year-old Packers legend are the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts. Titans second-year QB Will Levis has been largely unimpressive. Cleveland seems like an odd market for Rodgers but has a veritable black hole at the position with Deshaun Watson announced out for the start of 2025 due to a re-ruptured achilles.
Indianapolis has a young quarterback with potential in Anthony Richardson, but he was benched last year in favor of old Joe Flacco and there are serious questions about his fundamentals as a passer.
Of course, Rodgers could also decide to simply retire. In any case, it has been an ugly ride for the future Hall of Famer since leaving Lambeau. And it likely won’t get any prettier if he plays next season.
