While Aaron Rodgers is no longer on the Green Bay Packers, fans are still dealing with residual drama. Today, a huge report came out from The Athletic about the Rodgers situation. Rodgers himself along with many other people close to the situation were interviewed. The report confirmed that Aaron Rodgers attempted to get GM Brian Gutekunst fired in the 2021 offseason.
Aaron Rodgers Tried To Get Brian Gutekunst Fired
Rodgers often used his agent Dave Dunn in his interactions with the front office of the Packers. The report says that in the 2021 offseason Dunn called Packers president Mark Murphy and gave him an ultimatum. Choose between the GM or the star quarterback. It all stemmed from the Jordan Love pick that Gutekunst made and Rodgers held onto that grudge for a long time. Months after the demand is when it was leaked that Rodgers was requesting a trade.

Glad This Is Over
Good on the Packers for not bowing to the demands of Rodgers. While there will always be criticism of a GM and management, overall the Packers have done a good job at reloading the roster. They also flipped a disgruntled player who was demanding a trade into good assets. I for one am glad this saga is over in Green Bay. Reports like this coming out after the fact can be exhausting to read but ultimately he is the Jets problem now. The Packers are better off at this point now that they do not have a player that is actively fighting the front office.
There is an alternative world where Rodgers gets Brian Gutekunst fired. It is a great what if for the organization. Would it have changed their trajectory for the better or caused massive harm long term that crippled the team for years to come? We’ll never know but right now, the 2023 team looks like a promising young core and many fans are excited about the future.
