The Packers are in desperate need of a depth safety that can take over next year. Both Adrian Amos and Darnell Savage are in the last year of their contracts (Savage could have his 5th year picked up). Last season the Packers went 3 safeties often and their 3rd safety often was the weak point of the defense. Some prospects to keep an eye on are;
2021 stats 43 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 1 interception
Strengths: Doesn’t mind getting up close to the line of scrimmage and playing as an additional run defender, isn’t afraid to tackle. Smart player who can quickly diagnose plays and get to the right position. Exceptional athlete evident by RAS score. Shows playmaking ability and wants to rip the ball out.
Weaknesses: Can be overly aggressive at times and take himself out of plays. Doesn’t always wrap up on big hits. Might want to put on additional muscle at the next level to match his brand of play.
2021 stats 44 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 6 pass breakups, 6 interceptions
Strengths: Very intelligent player who understands the game. Quickly diagnoses plays and reads to get into position. Has a nose for the football evident from his 6 interceptions. Isn’t afraid to help in the run game and doesn’t shy away from contact.
Weaknesses: A smaller player who relies on big plays. Can get beat out by larger, more athletic receivers. Serious concerns over speed at the next level.
2021 stats 44 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups, 3 interceptions
Strengths: explosive athlete evident by RAS score. Fluid hip mobility allows him to mirror receivers in coverage. Plays with anticipation on routes in the middle of the field. Offers versatility, can cover in the slot, and can play near the line of scrimmage.
Weaknesses: Needs to work on slipping past blockers, gets eaten up too often in run support. Inexperience shows up occasionally with panic moments in coverage. Occasionally too aggressive and can get burnt by a double move.
2021 stats 57 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 9 pass breakups, 2 interceptions
Strengths: Has versatility and has played corner before. Smart player who can diagnose routes and route concepts. Tough player who isn’t afraid to throw his body around.
Weaknesses: isn’t an extremely explosive player, he isn’t a thumper for safety. Speed might be an issue at the next level when he’s asked to play in a larger zone. He fails to bring down opponents too often when trying to tackle.
2021 stats 82 tackles 3.5 tackles for loss, 8 pass breakups
Strengths: Extremely aggressive in the run game. One of the best tackling safeties in this class evident by his 82 tackles last season. Solid Blitzer who can disguise until the snap of the ball. Has a decent feel to zone and does not panic when left in space.
Weaknesses: he gets lost in deeper coverages when he is the backend guy. Hips are not as fluid as you would like to see in a coverage guy, likely to have trouble playing man at the next level. Is grabby when running with a receiver and the ball is in the air.
2021 stats 44 tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 5 pass breakups, 1 interception
Strengths: big safety at 6’2 who isn’t afraid to thump. He plays mean and wants opponents to be scared of the middle of the field. His best coverage is when he plays press on tight ends and reroutes them. If he makes a play he’s dangerous with the ball in his hands.
Weaknesses: athleticism is lacking on tape. When playing off coverage he lets opponents get into him and isn’t a fluid enough mover to catch up. Had receivers run away from him in college. Gets caught up and doesn’t realize what is happening occasionally, will need to work on diagnosing at the next level.
