Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur expressed grave concern about Christian Watson’s knee injury and whether he would be health in time to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the playoffs.
Packers Hall of Fame inductee Mark Tauscher suggests the head coach might be overthinking it.
Tauscher, now working as an analyst for Wisconsin Badgers and Packers radio coverage, does not think Watson is a big loss to the team.
The former professional offensive tackle said in ESPN Milwaukee that he has nothing to worry about Packers’ loss to the Bears on Sunday.
“If you are swayed at all by what you saw yesterday, I’m not in your camp. I can’t help you. I’m not swayed. Other than Jordan’s injury, yesterday meant nothing,” he said in the show.
His co-host interjected by inserting Watson’s injury but Lauscher said it did not change his take.
“Were you counting on Watson’s anyway if we’re being fair?”
The co-host said yes but the Packers legend remains firm.
“He hasn’t been health, he hasn’t been able to contribute,” Tauscher insisted.
What Tauscher said is both wrong and correct. Yes, Watson was not able to contribute versus the Bears and Saints, even against the San Francisco 49ers all because of his injury.
However, when he is fully fit, he can be instrumental, like that time he gained 114 yards against the Detroit Lions.
Christian Watson injury update
The worst happened to Watson’s season as LaFleur confirmed in front of reporters that he suffered a season-ending injury.
“It’s not good,” added LaFleur.
The 25-year-old wide receiver ends the season with 29 catches for 620 yards and two touchdowns in 15 starts.
LaFleur remains optimistic about his player.
“It’s an unfortunate part of our game. I know he’ll attack in the right way. It’ll be just a bump in the road,” he said.
