Wisconsin linebacker Zack Baun has notified all 32 teams that he has tested positive for a diluted sample at the NFL Combine. He explained that the positive test is the result of drinking too much water prior to weigh-in. Baun had weighed in at 242 pounds ahead of the Senior Bowl, but had dropped down to 238 at the Combine.
Draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. had ranked Baun as the third best linebacker in the draft. However, under the new collective bargaining agreement, this positive test will not result in a strike against Baun. In fact, his draft stock is not expected to take a hit. He is projected to be a late first-round draft pick.
Zack Baun had a breakout season with Wisconsin this past season. He recorded 53 tackles to go along with 12.5 sacks. In addition, he had two forced fumbles and one interception that he returned for a touchdown. The Brown Deer, Wisconsin native was named First Team All-Big Ten and to the Associated Press’s Second Team All-American.
