Brewers’ second basemen Kolten Wong stepped to the plate in the top of the first inning in St Louis’ home opener. The long-time Cardinal gave a salute to the St Louis dugout. He tipped his helmet to pitcher, Adam Wainwright, and waved to the crowd. Former teammate Yadier Molina stepped from behind the plate and allowed Kolten to bask in the welcoming applause from the St Louis faithful.
Once a Cardinal, always a Cardinal. Kolten Wong gets a standing O before his first-at-bat as a visitor at Busch.

The first at bat was emotional. Tears welled in Wong’s eyes as the first pitch was called a ball. He used his road gray Brewers’ uniform to wipe them away. The emotion was understandable: pitcher, Adam Wainwright, and catcher, Yadier Molina, were teammates of Kolten’s during his entire career with the Cards. Luckily, none of Wainwright’s pitches found the strike zone, and Wong drew a walk in his first at bat as a visitor in Busch Stadium.
The former Gold Glover for the Cardinals was expecting an emotional return. But he tweeted out that he was excited to get to business before Wednesday’s matchup.
Unfortunately, Wong didn’t reach base again during the game, going 0-for-3 including a strike out.
Injury
Wong was also eventually pulled from a game when he reaggravated his oblique. Pulling Kolten from the game instantly resulted in a misplay from substitute, Daniel Robertson. The injury originally kept Wong from the starting lineup in Tuesdays game against the Cubs. Wong hopes to avoid the IL as the Brewers continue their three-game series in St Louis on Saturday.
The flair up of Kolten Wong’s oblique injury comes shortly after the Brewers added more depth to their infield with the signing of Dee Strange-Gordon.
The Brewers lost the opener, 3-1.
