Not even 24 hours after the season ended for the Badgers, roster changes are already happening. Freshman forward Matthew Mors would be entering the transfer portal. Thanks to the NCAA’s “one-time transfer rule” all NCAA athletes are allowed to transfer one-time and play right away. So, Mors is not alone as we have seen hundreds of players enter the portal.
Mors’ Freshman Year
Unfortunately, we were not able to see much of Matthew Mors this season. The news that the three star recruit and 3-time South Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year was redshirting was disappointing to some Badger fans. Mors and Coach Gard thought a redshirt season would be beneficial for him to continue to build strength.
Why Transfer?
Unlike most players that enter the transfer portal, Mors is not doing this due to the lack of playing time or issues with the staff. It was reported that this was simply due to Mors being very homesick. South Dakota is not exactly very close to South Dakota, so I can completely understand that terrible feeling of missing your loved ones.
I'll tweet out the link to the story on #Badgers forward Matthew Mors when it is ready. But in short, he is homesick and will be going close to home. There are already some interesting names in the transfer portal, potential targets for UW, and there will be more.

Support
I know they are simply internet trolls, but it was disheartening to see some “Badgers” fans being upset about this decision. Mors is still a young kid who has the right to do whatever is best for him. The real fans will support him and wish nothing but the best for Mors moving forward.
Fellow Freshman teammate Chucky Hepburn tweeted out his support for Mors.
go be great kid🤞🏽my brother 4L❤️ @matthew_mors https://t.co/5KRGLdn4Jb

How This Effects Next Season
Since we were not able to see the production Matthew Mors could provide for this team, it is hard to know the impact his transfer will have. However, I can speculate that this means more opportunities for both Carter Gilmore and Ben Carlson to back up Tyler Wahl. Gilmore played a lot to start the season, but soon fell out of the rotation. Carlson, has struggled to stay healthy in his young career at Wisconsin so far. But, showed really nice flashes late in the season. I hope that both of them seize this opportunity and fight for more minutes next season.
Stay tuned for more offseason content as we will likely see a lot of intriguing players enter the portal. Soon, I will have a piece discussing possible transfer that Wisconsin should take a chance on.
