The Wisconsin football staff has been in close contact with a 2026 linebacker who has shown interest in taking a campus visit this season.
Tristan Phillips, a California native linebacker ranked as a four-star in the 2026 recruiting class, previously spoke with Wisconsin Sports Heroics last month. Phillips expressed plenty of interest in Wisconsin, and feels his play-style would match that of the top linebackers to attend Madison. The linebacker stated he thought ‘very highly’ of Wisconsin and has since been working with the staff to schedule a visit this season.
Wisconsin Football Staff, Four-Star Linebacker Tristan Phillips Working on Booking Campus Visit
As the Wisconsin football team enters the upcoming 2024 season, the staff is still working to book visits with top 2026 and 2027 recruits. Both the 2026 and 2027 recruiting classes are arguably loaded from top to bottom with talent and have seen incredible amounts of early recruiting pushes.
For the Wisconsin football staff, one player that the staff has been looking to book for a visit has been four-star 2026 linebacker Tristan Phillips. Phillips, a Ventura, California native, currently ranks as the 340th national recruit, the 30th overall linebacker, and the 34th-ranked player in the state.
Phillips also holds offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Washington, and USC, along with Wisconsin. Phillips also picked up an offer from UCLA after an unofficial visit back in June, which is the most recent offer the linebacker has received.
What Could Phillips Potentially Provide the Wisconsin Badgers Defense?
If there is one thing the Wisconsin football staff loves to see out of their linebackers, it is a level of fearlessness when entering a tackle. The Badgers love players who fly around the field and throw their body into the mix to make a play. Phillips is just that style of linebacker, combining intelligence, awareness, and physicality into one 6-foot-3-inch, 220-pound frame.
Phillips is a sure tackler and a physical linebacker that can either drop his shoulder into a hit, or take the incoming contact and hold on. Perhaps the most entertaining aspect of his play is his willingness to initiate contact and stop the play from progressing. Phillips flys around the field with great speed as well, consistently finding himself in the middle of each play.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Land Phillips in the Future?
The recruiting process is still fairly new to Phillips, and likely the top programs in the mind of the recruit will change over time. With this being said, the Wisconsin football staff needs to continue to keep close contact with Phillips and work on building their relationship to potentially land the recruit.
As previously stated by Phillips, both the history and the environment that a program can provide are factors that matter to the linebacker. If the Wisconsin staff can continue to hammer these factors home and secure a potential visit, landing Phillips might become a realistic possibility.
