The Wisconsin football staff has finally named a starting quarterback after a lopsided competition took place for the role.

Miami Hurricanes transfer quarterback and senior Tyler Van Dyke has been named the starting quarterback for Wisconsin. This announcement was expected after his transfer into the program, but the staff insisted on holding a competition to earn his role. Van Dyke impressed and showcased abilities that the Badgers lacked last season during their 7-6 campaign.

In an announcement that was expected to come for some time, Offensive Coordinator Phil Longo finally revealed the starting quarterback for Wisconsin. The Wisconsin football staff has selected Miami Hurricanes transfer Tyler Van Dyke as their starting quarterback for this upcoming season after a position battle. Van Dyke squared off against former starter Braedyn Locke for the role of starting quarterback.

Locke showcased some talent last season particularly in his arm strength, but struggled across the board the many other issues. Van Dyke and Locke began camp splitting time with the first-team offense and getting reps in with virtually all of the offense. However, this past week of practice Van Dyke had taken virtually all of the first-team snaps essentially solidifying himself as the starting quarterback.

Van Dyke was expected to be named the starting quarterback after his initial transfer months ago, but understandably had to prove himself first.

While it never truly seemed like a competition, Van Dyke had to initially battle against Locke in order to secure the starting role. The Wisconsin football staff does not believe in giving out playing time, and rather makes players earn their playing time. In the case of Van Dyke, a fifth-year senior, the quarterback still needed to prove himself just like the rest of the team.

Can Van Dyke Lead the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team to Success This Season?

Both the Badgers fans and the staff alike are hoping that Van Dyke can truly offer the team a chance at success this season. Quarterbacks Tanner Mordecai and Braedyn Locke did the best they could despite the circumstances last season, but the team aims to take another step forward.

Van Dyke is truly the man for this job not just because of his victory in the quarterback competition or his past success at Miami. Rather, Van Dyke offers confidence, skill, and experience that the Wisconsin football team can use at a leadership position like quarterback.

The quarterback recorded over 8000 yards and 50 touchdowns during his four years with the Miami Hurricanes. While he never quite reached the expectations that Miami set, the quarterback proved he has the ability to play at a high-level in college.
