Fall camp is underway for Wisconsin football. The Badgers will put the pads on for the first time tomorrow as they begin preparation for the 2024 season. We know by now how difficult the schedule is and the mixture of new and familiar faces this team has. With the addition of four new teams to the Big Ten, divisions are gone and only two teams out of the 18 team conference will make the conference championship in Indianapolis. Here are my four predictions for the 2024 Wisconsin football season.
Hunter Wohler Will Be A First Team All Big Ten Selection
Hunter Wohler is the best overall player on this Wisconsin football roster. He is also the leader of this team. Wohler did get first team all Big Ten last year by the coaches, but was selected as a second team by media. How that happened I am not sure.
All Wohler does is find the football. He led the Badgers with 120 total tackles. I think he will put up similar numbers to that this season. As one of the best defensive players in the Big Ten returning this year, look for Wohler to have a dominating senior year and leave as one of the better defensive players in the Wisconsin football program in a long time.
Wisconsin Football Will Win at Least 1 Game in the Alabama, USC, Penn State, and Oregon Gauntlet
You won’t find many schedules in the country with four tougher games like this on it than the Badgers. The Alabama game is the first of an agreed upon two game series where the Badgers will travel to Tuscaloosa next season.
The good news? USC is the only road game in this bunch. These should be the biggest crowds at Camp Randall all season. The Badgers haven’t been a dominant home team like they have been in the past, but I think Madison is still a tough place to play. I don’t see Wisconsin football losing three home games on the schedule this year.
Will Pauling Will be an All Conference Selection
Pauling was a stud for the Badgers last year after transferring from Cincinnati. He led the team with 73 catches for over 800 yards. After not making an all conference team in 2023, I would be shocked if Pauling did not produce well enough to make one of the teams.
Now that he’s got a full season in Madison under his belt, I think Pauling could be a 1,000 yard receiver. He was really good at getting open from the slot and made some big plays late in games. He should be the top Wisconsin football receiving target on an opposing scout report.
Wisconsin Football Will Win 8 Games in 2024
I won’t predict every game on the schedule in this piece as I will do that every Friday during the season. This feels like a team you can bet the over on 6.6 wins. While there are some really tough games on the 2024 schedule, I think there’s a good amount of games the Badgers should take care of business in. This team already feels like they are deeper and more talented than they were a year ago.
Games like Iowa, Nebraska, and Rutgers will likely be toss up games, but I don’t think Wisconsin loses all three of those games. I might be taken the higher side of this, but I think this team is better than they were in 2023. The results on the field matter most, but I have a better feeling about this team than other might.
