The Wisconsin football staff has been on the hunt for talent in the 2024 recruiting class. The Badgers are expecting multiple highly anticipated visitors to come to campus in the next two weeks.
Among the expected visitors is a highly talented 2024 four-star edge rusher that has caught the attention of coach Colin Hitschler recently. Obinna Onwuka, a four-star recruit from Maryland, is pretty deep into his recruitment process and the Badgers have joined relatively late. Wisconsin is hoping a late push can help boost their chances of landing the recruit.
Wisconsin Badgers Attempting Late Recruit Push For 2024 Four-Star Obinna Onwuka
The Wisconsin football staff offered Onwuka a scholarship only a week ago and have already secured an official visit for June 9th. Onwuka is currently ranked as the 11th recruit in the state of Maryland and the 27th edge rusher in the class. Onwuka is also ranked as the 391st recruit overall in the 2024 recruiting class. Wisconsin might have secured a visit quickly, but they are the 12th team to offer the recruit.
Recently, Onwuka set official visits to West Virginia, Virginia Tech, and Boston College. Wisconsin securing a visit with the recruit is a great step in the right direction despite joining in on his recruitment late. Now, the Badgers will have quite the battle ahead of them as the other scheduled visits fall around his Madison trip.
Coming in at 6-foot-3-inches, 270-pounds, Onwuka is a powerful edge rusher with a serious ability to take down the quarterback. The talented edge rusher can blow through or around opposing blockers with ease to bring down the ball carrier. Onwuka has a great combination of size and speed that allows him to catch opposing players from behind as well. Often, Onwuka finds himself behind the offense after working his way into the backfield.
Onwuka also has incredible play recognition and often finds himself exactly where the play is going to occur. By far his best ability is his power moves when rushing, which blow the opposing blockers back with force. Onwuka is an exceptional recruit, but still lacks a full array of moves since he is a bull rusher primarily. The edge rusher can also come off the snap slow at times which hurts his ability to get to the quarterback. Despite this, the recruit still has another year to continue to develop his game.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Hoping For Late Year Heroics With Talented Recruit
Currently, the exceptional recruit has not made a visit to Madison yet, meaning his official visit will be the first time he steps foot on campus. Onwuka has already visited Boston College twice, and West Virginia and Virginia Tech once each. The Wisconsin football staff will have to make the most of their opportunity with Onwuka given his dense list of visits.
The Wisconsin Badgers football staff have been looking to add to their already talented defense as much as they can. In the past, the Wisconsin Badgers football teams of the past have boasted incredible defenses, and that is the exact tradition that coach Luke Fickell is hoping to carry on.
With the right strategies in place, the Wisconsin football staff could land the talented recruit following his visit.
