After back-to-back wins over big underdogs to start the 2024 college football season, Wisconsin football faltered on Saturday when the Badgers got lit up on both ends of the field in a 42-10 loss at home at the hands of the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Wisconsin football head coach gets real about the Badgers after a tough loss to Alabama
Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell was candid when he revealed after the Alabama game what he told his players about the embarrassing takedown by the Crimson Tide.
Via Jesse Temple of The Athletic:
“I’ll give you guys the same message I just gave them: If you haven’t had your ass whooped before, you just did,” Fickell said. “They beat us in every phase of the game today.”
Alabama was a big favorite entering the game even though the Crimson Tide were the road team. But Alabama exceeded expectations still, as Kalen DeBoer’s squad battered Wisconsin on nearly every aspect of the game. The writings appeared to be on the wall early for Wisconsin football when starting quarterback Tyler Van Dyke exited the game in the first quarterback with a leg injury.
In any case, the Badgers, who are now carrying a 2-1 record overall, will have to find a way to fix their issues before another big assignment on September 28 on the road against the USC Trojans.
“We know we’ve got a hell of a long way to go to figure out what we are and what we can hang our hat on,” Fickell said. “But I have faith and trust in those guys in that locker room. And that’s what you’ve got to continue to ride with.”
