The Wisconsin football staff recently extended a handful of scholarships to recruits who had been on the radar of the team.

Among the recent athletes to receive an offer is 2027 three-star recruit Kamauri Whitfield, a rising defender who is a native of Florida. Whitfield hails from the Orlando area and is one of many recruits who the staff recently extended an offer to from the state.

The Badgers previously landed recruits from the Gainesville and Fort Myers areas in the 2025 recruiting class and have pushed to replicate similar levels of success.

Wisconsin previously found a gem in the secondary after Xavier Lucas flew relatively under the radar while producing excellent numbers in Florida. Lucas may no longer be a part of the program, but finding the undiscovered talent is something that the Badgers have pushed for.

Enter Whitfield, and the Wisconsin football staff has found a potentially great fit in the secondary, or possibly even the offense. Wisconsin seems to think so after telling Whitfield the staff ‘liked’ what he had to offer during an initial conversation.

Secondary guru Paul Haynes has been the leading recruiter for Whitfield, and was the coach who had the chance to extend an offer.

The Badgers are one of a few northern programs to extend a scholarship offer to the talented athlete. Whitfield currently holds offers from Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, and Wisconsin among other major programs.

The athlete has also visited Florida State in the past and could be on the cusp of reeling in an offer. UCF, FAU, and Miami (FL) have all begun working to keep the recruit in the state, with UCF being the first offer Whitfield received. The Golden Knights could be the team to watch since the program sits right in the backyard of Whitfield, but other key factors will play a role in the recruiting process.

Speed, Versatility Highlight Exceptional Skillset for Kamauri Whitfield

While the Wisconsin football program may not be the current leader for Whitfield, the potential fit within the program can already be seen.

Standing in at 5-feet-11-inches, 187-pounds, Whitfield provides both physicality and versatility in the secondary. The athlete is primarily a defensive back, but Whitfield stated that he also can play ‘anywhere in the receiving core’ on offense. Whitfield is being recruited as a defensive back by Wisconsin but that does not rule out opportunities on special teams or potentially on offense.

The Wisconsin football staff has preached how important recruiting and landing versatile players has become, which is why Haynes has been intrigued by Whitfield.

On the field, the defensive back stated that his play is best described through ‘speed, man coverage, and tackling’. Whitfield backs up his scouting report with excellent open-field vision and tackling ability, along with great field sense when in coverage.

Whitfield is a difficult player to beat as a quarterback due to the consistency and awareness that the defensive back provides. Additionally, the recruit has great speed and rarely finds opposing players who can stay close when sprinting.
