It appears Wisconsin is set to add another coach to their staff. According to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic, the Badgers are hiring Rhode Island defensive coordinator Jack Cooper as a senior defensive analyst. Cooper spent some time on the Nebraska staff as well.
Feldman also mentions under Cooper, the Rams had their best defensive season as a program in 2021. According to the Rhode Island athletics page, Cooper has recruiting ties in Connecticut, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
At Rhode Island And Coaching Stops
In 2021, the Rams were in the top 50 in points allowed per game, yards allowed per play, yards allowed per pass attempt, sacks per game, and defensive pass efficiency. This is also according to the Rams athletics website.
The Rams athletics website also states Cooper has had stops at Salve Regina, Southern Connecticut State, Yale, UCF, and Nebraska. Cooper’s coaching career began in 2013.
I like the hire. It helps Cooper has familiarity with the Big Ten and Wisconsin. He will have the chance to join a staff that should be a really good defense led by first year defensive coordinator Mike Tressel.
