The Wisconsin football staff has secured their second commitment from the 2024 class in as many days with defensive end Hank Weber joining the team.

Hank Weber, a three-star defensive end in the 2024 class, is a Tennessee native with a distinct style of play. Weber currently ranks as the 99th defensive lineman in the class and the 37th recruit in the state. Weber scheduled three official visits, but would go on to commit to the Badgers shortly after visiting campus. The talented recruit had been recruited by the Badgers for nearly four months before committing.

The Wisconsin Badgers football staff has been eagerly recruiting prospects left and right this month. Already, their recruiting class has grown as players experience Madison and the new coaching staff for the first time. In the case of Hank Weber, the bond that grew between the recruit and the coaching staff was a major deciding factor that led to his commitment. The Tennessee native attends Brentwood Academy and has had the chance to play against top competition in his state. Now, the recruit will get the chance to do the same for the Badgers.

Coaches Greg Scruggs and Mike Tressel have been the main points of contact for Weber throughout this process. However, it is coach Luke Fickell that made the biggest impact on Weber during his recruitment. Upon meeting with the entire staff, there was a change in the decision making process for Weber. According to Jon McNamara of Rivals, Weber’s high school coach Jacob Gill felt “surprised” by his commitment until he later learned why the recruit made his decision.

Gill, the first-year head coach at Brentwood Academy, stated that he originally did not expect Weber to commit during any of his official visits. Weber was scheduled to visit Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, and North Carolina, in that order. However, Weber did not make it past his first visit before making up his mind. Gill also stated that Weber “…loved every single thing about it” when referring to his Madison trip. Weber had made it known that he wanted to commit to a school before the start of his Senior year, but the timing was unexpected by most.

Wisconsin Football: How Does Three-Star Hank Weber Fit Into The Team?

Perhaps the key to the recruitment of Weber was the fact that he fit perfectly into the Badgers system. The Wisconsin football team has been developing an entirely new system under the leadership and guidance of coach Luke Fickell. According to Gill, Weber loved the style of play that the Wisconsin football team had to offer, which became a major deciding factor. Weber is an aggressive and physical player, much like fellow Wisconsin football commitment Vernon Woodward.

As Wisconsin and coach Fickell continue to land the recruits they see as fits, the Badgers are becoming a more well-rounded team by the day.
