One of the Wisconsin football receivers who has been drawing plenty of attention early on has been a dynamic deep-threat.
Bryson Green, a former transfer wide receiver from Oklahoma State University, struggled to make much of an impact during his first season with Wisconsin. In year two however, the receiver could truly breakout as he continues to carve out a specific role for himself on the offense. The 6-foot-3-inch receiver is likely going to become the go-to guy for the deep shots downfield Wisconsin is looking to take.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Receiver Bryson Green Establishing Himself as a True Deep-Threat
One of the early storylines come out of camp for the Wisconsin football program has been the dominance of wide receiver Bryson Green in long-range situations. Green transferred into Wisconsin last season and recorded 480 receiving yards and two touchdowns with an average of 15 yards per reception. The receiver has been known to the take the top off and make big plays down field in single coverage.
Last season, the offensive and the quarterback position struggled for Wisconsin which cause Green and his fellow receivers to never quite ball out completely. However this season, the Wisconsin football staff has a new plan for Green as they create long-range situations for the receiver to excel at. Green has looked excellent in 50-50 situations down field against single coverage.
In Year Two with the Wisconsin Football Program, Can Green Breakout for the Badgers?
For the receiver in his final year of eligibility, breaking out is something that he has aimed to do since he first step foot on the collegiate field. However, the receiver has faced some adversity and has had to wait until this upcoming season to truly show what he is capable of.
A season ago, one of the issues that plagued the receiving corp for Wisconsin was drops, which also hurt Green as well. While the quarterback play struggled last season and certainly should be improved this year, drops also caused many drives and games to end before they should have. With those expected changes this upcoming season, Green could finally reach the potential he feels he has not gotten to show yet.
Both Pauling, Green Could Become Pivotal Offensive Pieces During Upcoming Campaign
For the Wisconsin offense, there is a duo of receivers that offers differently sets of skills, and could compliment each other this upcoming season on the field. Will Pauling proved last season he is a dynamic receiver that can find different ways to get open, whether it is via his route running or his juke moves. Bryson Green, on the other hand, is a powerful receiver that excels when playing over the top of the secondary.
The two differing styles of play between the receivers could compliment each other on the field as Wisconsin aims to put players in positions to succeed. The Wisconsin football staff has continued to experiment with each position giving players opportunities in camp to do whatever they may do best on the field. The staff may conclude that putting both receivers on the field at the same time more often this upcoming season in order for the receivers to benefit each other.
Pauling and Green combined for 1317 receiving yards on 106 receptions along with eight touchdowns during last season. While Pauling carried the load between the two, the new roles at wide receiver could allow Green to mimic the same production that Pauling has.
Offensive Coordinator Phil Longo saw similar results at UNC with current NFL wide receivers Josh Downs and Antoine Green in the past. The duo combining for 1828 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns during the 2022 season.
