There will be a new quarterback running the show for Wisconsin football in 2025. Shortly after Tyler Van Dyke decided to enter the transfer portal, Braedyn Locke followed suit, as he’s also announced the same move through a heartfelt message shared to his followers on social media.
“Thank you to the University of Wisconsin, the coaches, and my teammates for an unforgettable 2 years,” Locke wrote in a message that was posted on his X (the social media platform formerly known as Twitter) account. “I’ll always cherish my time here. I will be entering the transfer portal with 2 years of eligibility remaining!” Locke added.
Braedyn Locke’s 2024 season with Wisconsin football
Locke, a redshirt sophomore. Played five games in 2023 for Wisconsin football but garnered most of his starts in Madison in 2024 when he had to step in as the Badgers starter following the season-ending injury suffered by Van Dyke.
Locke had an up-and-down 2024 campaign with the Badgers. In 11 games this season, he passed for 1,936 yards and 13 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. In Locke’s 2024 campaign with the Badgers, Wisconsin ranked just 101st in the nation with 22.2 points per game and 98th with 195.1 passing yards per contest. Wisconsin finished the season with just a 5-7 record.
Locke made his transfer portal decision known just after the Badgers named a new offensive coordinator in Jeff Grimes, who replaces Phil Longo.
With Locke gone, Wisconsin football is left with a possible 2025 quarterback room featuring true freshman Mabrey Mettauer, Carter Smith and Landyn Locke, who is Braedyn’s younger brother.
