The Wisconsin football staff has been keeping a close eye on a special athlete in the 2026 recruiting class from Sheboygan.
2026 quarterback and outside linebacker Blake Buhr has become a name the Badgers are watching closely. Buhr is a versatile athlete that once thought his collegiate career would revolve around basketball, but now finds himself a football hopeful. The athlete recently sat down with the Wisconsin Sports Heroics staff to speak about how his recruitment has gone and what it might bring in the future.
Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff Maintaining Contact With 2026 QB/OLB Blake Buhr
The Wisconsin football staff has been working diligently to scout on the 2026 class, starting with the best in-state gems they can find. Among the players they have been maintaining contact with and scouting out is 2026 recruit Blake Buhr. Buhr, a quarterback and outside linebacker, is a Sheboygan, Wisconsin native and attends Sheboygan North High School.
Buhr has been scouted on the defensive side of the ball mainly by the Wisconsin football staff, who see his future at the outside linebacker position. But, Buhr is also an accomplished quarterback who can offer plenty of promise on the offensive side of the ball as well. The Wisconsin football staff loves the versatility that Buhr offers and considers him to be a player to watch.
The athlete did not always have a passion for football, as Buhr picked the sport up in 8th grade to accompany his basketball career. However, football quickly overtook basketball and has since offered plenty of potential opportunities for the athlete. Buhr is still interested in playing basketball at the collegiate level, but has given football more of a chance due to his potential.
Currently, Buhr has been in contact with Wisconsin football, North Dakota State, and Iowa State the most during his recruitment. The athlete has received mail and such from plenty of others schools, but has kept consistent contact with the three mentioned schools. Buhr had also been in contact with Central Michigan and took a campus visit as well.
What Would Buhr Offer the Wisconsin Football Offense or Defense?
Currently, it seems as though Buhr would serve as an outside linebacker for the Wisconsin offense due to the skills he has at that position. However, Buhr is also an accomplished quarterback those skills should be highlighted regardless of what position he eventually plays. Wisconsin football outside linebackers coach Matt Mitchell has been the staff member trying to lead the charge in the recruitment of Buhr.
On the defensive side of the ball, the 6-foot-5-inch outside linebacker is an accomplished pass rusher with an array of moves. Buhr has plenty of power and strength in his play, but also intelligently uses the length that he has to his advantage. The outside linebacker stated, “When I get off the line on a blitz, it is always going to be a lot of fun.”
On the offensive side of the ball, the lengthy quarterback is able to reach over incoming defenders and make big plays. Buhr is a strong athlete and that has allowed him to delivered the ball with ease and avoid having passes swatted back. While Buhr has shown plenty of promise on offense, it is the defensive side of the ball the recruit is truly trying to focus on improving.
The outside linebacker stated, “I am not afraid to be open and honest and say that my pad level has been terrible.” Buhr is a tall player and at times trying to get low enough to make a truly effective tackle is not the easiest thing to do. The linebacker also wants to focus on his footwork and improve his game to a higher level before reaching collegiate play.
