Cole LaCrue wants to take Wisconsin football to the top. The 3-Star senior from Bloomfield, Colorado, has been waiting all year for this moment. With his classmates and teachers surrounding him, Cole chose to become a Wisconsin Badger. Cole LaCrue is a scrappy, big-arm gunslinger who isn’t afraid to tuck the pigskin and plow up the middle. He’s loud and leads by example, and he’s just what the Wisconsin program needs.
Big news.

At 6’2, and 190lbs, Cole is an average-build college Quarterback, but he has an above-average arm. Cole’s High School coach said this about LaCrue, “He is ultra-competitive, but it’s not overbearing. He is going to come in, and he is going to want to compete right away for the starting position. He is going to do everything that he can… studying and learning the offense to put himself in a position where he can try to step in and be a starter.”
Cole LaCrue is Wisconsin’s lone quarterback commitment in the class of 2023. Wisconsin has Freshman Myles Burkett, Freshman walk-on Marshall Howe, and returning starter Graham Mertz rostered. Mertz was redshirted as a Freshman and can apply for a year of eligibility for the 2020 season, leaving him potentially two years of eligibility. There is a slight chance he could pursue a professional career. Chase Wolf, the last rostered quarterback, who recently returned from injury, could also file for another year of eligibility for the 2020 season.
The University of Wisconsin now has thirteen commitments for the 2023 class. In addition to Wisconsin, Colorado, Central Michigan, South Dakota, and Northern Colorado all had extended offers to LaCrue. After visiting the University on the 31st of October, Cole’s commitment was steadfast.
High School Highlights
While led by LaCrue, Broomfield is 10-0 in 2022. Wins don’t lie, and neither do numbers. LaCrue has been unstoppable, completing 65% of his passes. He has 34 touchdowns, 13 on the ground and 21 in the air. He’s only thrown two interceptions, totaling 1,854 passing yards, and rushing for 627 yards.
Cole is a crucial commitment for Jim Leonhard’s staff. It’s been a big week for Jim Leonhard the Badgers, first they locked in their first commitment for the class of 2024, and then shut down Taulia Tagovailoa and the Maryland Terps offense 23-10 Saturday.
