The Wisconsin football staff has had a particular connection developing between the team and a priority 2026 defensive target.
Aldarius Johnson Jr, a four-star defensive back from Florida, has been one of the top defensive backs on the radar of the Wisconsin football staff. One particular staffer, Cornerbacks Coach Paul Haynes, has been keeping close contact with Johnson Jr during the early portion of his recruitment. During a recent interview with Wisconsin Sports Heroics, Johnson Jr revealed his interest in Wisconsin football, as well as what he is looking for in a school.
Wisconsin Football Eyeing 2026 Four-Star Defensive Back Aldarius Johnson Jr
In early March, the Wisconsin football staff extended a scholarship to one of their favorite defensive backs within the 2026 class. Aldarius Johnson Jr, a four-star defensive back from Florida, currently holds a handful of scholarship offers but has received major interest from power conference programs. Johnson Jr stated that Wisconsin, Louisville, Miami, and Texas A&M have been in the closest contact early on in his recruitment.
Johnson Jr is a physical coverage defensive back that excels playing both man-to-man or zone coverages against offenses. The defensive back has experience playing as both a safety and a cornerback, but expects to continue playing cornerback at the collegiate level.
Aldarius Johnson Jr: “Me and Coach Haynes Have a Strong Relationship, That’s My Guy”
For Johnson Jr, speaking with Coach Haynes and the Wisconsin football staff has been a great experience thus far. The recruit stated, “The experience has been good so far with Wisconsin, me and Coach Haynes have a strong relationship, that’s my guy.” Johnson Jr also expressed excitement over his recent contact with big schools Miami and Texas A&M.
Coach Haynes has worked tirelessly early on to develop these relationships with young defensive backs as they continue to adventure through the recruitment process.
For the Wisconsin Badgers Football Staff, Johnson Jr Wants to Become Family
Perhaps the biggest key to the eventual recruitment of Johnson Jr is the relationship that he develops with the staff and members of the program along the way. When asked, Johnson Jr stated, “I’m looking for a staff that’s going to develop me into a great athlete for the next level and a staff that’s going to treat me like family.”
Johnson Jr also went on to state that he is looking for “…a winning program who have a great culture and where I can feel like it is home away from home.” The most important aspect of the recruitment process for the defensive back is feeling like he is at home with family. That level of comfortability can only come with time as the Wisconsin football staff continues to get closer to Johnson Jr.
