The Wisconsin football team will face arguably their toughest challenge of the season when they face off against #4 Alabama this weekend.
The Crimson Tide are also 2-0 this season after coming off a close win over the USF Bulls that saw the Bulls take the lead in the third quarter. Wisconsin has had some close games of their own as the offense still struggles to fully unleash their capabilities. However, Wisconsin may not need to display the most finished product on the field as long as they can slow down the speedy Alabama offense.
Wisconsin Football Must Hold Milroe, Williams to Limited Production to Defeat Crimson Tide
The Wisconsin football team is just a day away from the toughest challenge the team will face all season in the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide were last in Madison in 1928 and played Wisconsin last in 2015 during a neutral site clash in Arlington, Texas. The Wisconsin Badgers football team lost to Alabama, 35-17, as the Crimson Tide rushers tore through the Wisconsin defensive front.
The Wisconsin football team is in a similar position heading into this matchup, with the defensive line struggling and exciting rushers awaiting the chance to run on the defense. In particular, quarterback Jalen Milroe is going to want to run against the Wisconsin Badgers defense due to the holes he may find. Previously, it was Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake who were able to find the holes and hit them with precision against the Badgers.
Wisconsin is also going to have to worry about the speed of the rest of the offense, as plenty of other players can fly just like Milroe. In particular, wide receivers Ryan Williams and Gertie Bernard, with Williams being an absolute weapon against defenses over the top. Bernard is on his third school in three years, but has been a gadget, trick-play receiver all of his career and does the same now for the Crimson Tide.
Can the Wisconsin Badgers Football Team Stop the Alabama Crimson Tide Offense?
The question for the Badgers against the Crimson Tide was never if the Badgers could stop the offense, but rather limit it. There is no doubt that Milroe cannot be fully shutdown as he can still make an impact with his legs against the weakest part of the Wisconsin defense. The last game Alabama had against USF is a perfect example of that as the Bulls applied pressure and held the offense down for three quarters.
However, the Alabama offense is inevitable and eventually managed to open the game up in the fourth quarter against the Bulls. Despite three sacks and limiting Milroe to just two rushing yards, the quarterback still ran in two scores and passed for two more. As great as Milroe is, there are also other weapons to worry about including receiver Ryan Williams.
Williams, the 17-year old sensation, has not been truly tested by a defense yet and will certainly face his toughest test against cornerback Ricardo Hallman. Hallman should likely be in the area of Williams all game as he is arguably the most lethal receiver on the Alabama roster currently. Williams was held to just 68-yards and one touchdown on four receptions last game after recording over 100-yards and two scores in his debut.
The Wisconsin Badgers have the ability to potentially slow down the production of the Crimson Tide offense much like the Bulls did for the majority of the game. It will come down to execution for the Badgers as mistakes or easy scores are how the Crimson Tide develop such insurmountable leads over their opponents.
