Aaron Rodgers is very much aware that he’s an elder statesman in the NFL. The quarterback may also be feeling his age more when he’s around Wisconsin football product and Jets New York Jets rookie star running back Braelon Allen.
Aaron Rodgers comments about former Wisconsin Badgers star Braelon Allen’s age
Rodgers has long been familiar with Allen, but the future Hall of Famer signal-caller recently admitted he was astonished when he realized how young the former Badger is.
Via Rich Cimini of ESPN:
I joked around from the first time he sat down in front of me, Rodgers said. “I knew who he was when he drafted him. I had heard about this 17-year-old kid playing at the University of Wisconsin when I was playing in Green Bay. I couldn’t believe it. I figured, oh, he must turn 18 pretty quick. But, no, he turned 18 in January of his freshman year. Now he’ll turn 21 in January of his rookie year. That’s crazy.”
Rodgers was still playing for the Green Bay Packers during Allen’s first two seasons with the Badgers. By Allen’s third year in Madison, Rodgers was already with the New York Jets, who acquired via a blockbuster trade with the Packers in April of 2023.
Allen is still discovering his way in the NFL, but having someone like Rodgers around must be a big help for the 20-year-old Wisconsin product.
Breece Hall remains the top option on the ground for the Jets, but Allen could see his role expand in the coming weeks. In Week 2’s win over the Tennessee Titans, he had seven carries for 33 rushing yards and a touchdown to go with two receptions, 23 receiving yards, and a touchdown on four targets. Those are more than what he had in his NFL debut in Week 1 against the San Francisco 49ers where he only had a catch four nine yards and a rushing attempt for eight rushing yards.
