A Look Ahead: Wisconsin Football Snags 15th Hardest Schedule For ’24 Season

The Wisconsin football team has been succeeding off the field in the recruiting world, but the season is nearly here.

In just a few months, Wisconsin football will need to embark upon the 2024 season, which will be the second full season under Head Coach Luke Fickell. Fickell has worked hard to develop a stronger team after a lackluster first season in the eyes of the seasoned coach. The Wisconsin football team did not meet their own expectations last season, but now will have to meet the same expectations against one of the hardest schedules in the country.

Entering the 2024 college football season, the Wisconsin Badgers football staff has done an exceptional amount to put the program in a better position. The Badgers have added an abundance of players through the transfer portal, claiming 16 transfers and the 23rd overall transfer class. In addition to the transfer portal success, the Wisconsin football staff have also added 22 recruits including eight total four-star recruits.

Wisconsin has certainly put in plenty of work this off-season, and they certainly will need to given their upcoming schedule during the 2024 season. According to 247 Sports, the Badgers will face five pre-season ranked teams which are Alabama, Oregon, Penn State, USC, and Iowa.

Wisconsin goes from playing Oregon and USC in non-conference games, to now facing them in the Big Ten which shifts the value of each game. The non-conference games are not any easier as the Alabama Crimson Tide will visit Madison this upcoming season.

Easily the two hardest games on the schedule for the Wisconsin Badgers football team come against Alabama and Oregon. The Crimson Tide and the Ducks are ranked third and fourth in the preseason polls, respectively. Head Coach Kalen DeBoer will have his first road game during his tenure with the Crimson Tide as all eyes will be on Madison.

The Wisconsin staff will also have their first real test of the 2024 season after facing Western Michigan and South Dakota to open up the year. The contest against the Oregon Ducks will be particularly interesting since they are now a member of the Big Ten Conference. As a new conference opponent, the pressure to win will be greater for Wisconsin if they hope to make some noise in their conference this season.

What Record Can the Wisconsin Football Team Finish the 2024 Season With?

The biggest question remaining for the Wisconsin Badgers heading into the 2024 season is whether or not the team will win more games than last season. A season ago, the Badgers finished 7-6 last season including their bowl game loss to LSU. Wisconsin football also went 5-4 in conference play, which could be hard to improve upon given the additions to the conference this season.

Heading into the 2024 season, the Badgers will need to secure wins in the easier games on their schedule, which was something the team struggled with previously. With an improved team this season, it still could be difficult for the Badgers to crack nine wins against tough competition.
