The Wisconsin Badgers have a whole new coaching staff, full of coaches without prior ties to the university. This is a drastic change from the way the program has usually been run in the past. To be certain, familiar names like Jim Leonhard and Bobby April III will be sorely missed. However, the new coaching staff, which includes head coach Luke Fickell, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Mike Tressel, and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Phil Longo, have Wisconsin fans dreaming of National Championships. According to one of them, fans should absolutely have those dreams, too.
Wisconsin Badgers Defensive Coordinator Mike Tressel on the Team’s Ceiling
In a recent interview, Wisconsin defensive coordinator Mike Tressel was asked what he thought the ceiling of this program could be. He did not hold back in his answer:
Tressel was blunt when asked what the ceiling is for the Badgers: "national championship is the ceiling, and this program can do it."

The Wisconsin Badgers football team has not won a National Championship since 1942.
The Fickell Effect
Since Luke Fickell was hired as the head coach of Wisconsin, he has nabbed several high profile transfer portal players. This includes former four-star quarterback Nick Evers, who transferred from Oklahoma. It also includes standout quarterback Tanner Mordecai, who is projected to be the team’s starter next season.
In addition to these two quarterbacks, Fickell has brought in high-profile coaches Phil Longo and Mike Tressel who will revolutionize Wisconsin Badgers football. It is truly an exciting time in Madison!
